In 1992, the TPS technology, was contracted by the National Contaminated Sites Remediation Program (NCSRP) Management Committee to excavate and treat PCB contaminated soil and debris from an orphaned scrap yard located in Makinson’s, Newfoundland. Under direction from the NCSRP, the site was to be remediated to below the CCME Parkland Residential Criteria for PCBs of < 5ppm. During the course of this project the TPS treated a significant volume of contaminated soil using the TPS and approximately 1,000,000 litres of PCB contaminated (treated to < 5ppb). The site was successfully remediated from an average input concentration of 175ppm to 0.24ppm, a removal efficiency of > 99.8%. Contaminated soil was continuously processed through the TPS with adherence to strict QA/QC practices. Samples were taken on a regular basis for third party analysis. The sampling and analysis protocol was closely examined by the Newfoundland and Labrador DOE and Environment Canada and regularly audited. |
