Over the last 40 years, regulators and the public have been primarily focused on the hazards associated conventional pollutants like persistent chlorinated toxics and heavy metals. We have largely ignored the potential cumulative impact of the myriad of bioactive chemicals found in the diverse range of pharmaceutical products the US EPA defines as including Prescription Medications, Over-The-Counter treatments and the basic chemical constituents of these essential products. Recent evidence is clear, traditional disposal methods are not suitable and these products are increasingly showing up in our waterways and our food supply.

Not all impact is purely environmental. Many of these products are safe for traditional disposal such as shredding and landfilling. However, as landfills become increasingly congested and manufacturers increasingly concerned over the integrity of their brands they are looking for a more secure and low impact management solution for much of their material.

At PS2 we believe that while traditional management practices including landfilling and incineration are effective in many circumstances; in others improvements can be introduced. Our PDD Process uses a proprietary combination of pyrolysis and depolymerization in a closed loop, oxygen free system to safely destroy any chemical compound in the waste stream and is capable of recovering a significant proportion of the hydrocarbons from the plastic packaging while producing no harmful air emissions.

Treating hundreds of metric tonnes of hazardous and non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste per year, Phase Separation Solutions is the secure and ecological choice for pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and reverse logistics suppliers in Canada and the US.
